All of the KYSCEC members after a fun meeting!
ONE BIG FAMILY!
Hello all! For all of you that were at the Kentucky CEC conference, I hope that you learned a lot and had a great time! If you were unable to make it, you missed a great time of learning and bonding. During the SCEC meeting that happened during the conference, we didn't just focus on the logistics, but instead students from Morehead State University and Western Kentucky University came together and brainstormed some great ideas for the future of SCEC. Even our adviser, Dr. Sarah Hawkins-Lear commented on how she had not seen such unity in the 7 years of her work with the SCEC.
We dearly missed members from Murray, Bellermine and the brand new chapter at Eastern Kentucky University at the meeting. However, we decided unanimously that unity and communication between all of the Kentucky chapters is necessary for growth! We can all agree that recruitment is the most difficult part of SCEC, especially when members want the focus to stay on the children and communities we serve. But, we can all also agree that having the annual conference is a great way to boost morale and bounce ideas off of one another. Thus, I believe that a Kentucky SCEC blog would be a great way to continue encouragement and morale year round.

I have created this blog with the intent that all SCEC chapters will post their agendas, photos, and community involvement ideas on here. I don't know how each of you all keep track of your agendas, but I think that it could be very beneficial for secretaries at each chapter to automatically type the agendas/minutes into the blog and insert pictures as the meetings are conducted. Then, simply post the blog at the conclusion of the meeting. I hope that officers from each chapter will be in contact with one another at least twice a semester, if not more, and I hope that these blog posts will encourage each chapter to work hard for our communities!

Anyone can comment on the posts, so don't be discouraged if you are not a current officer. So please feel free to share constructive criticisms or praise! Let us all be encouraged to stay accountable to one another, for we are one group!

Have an exceptional day! -Sami Hearn, MSU chapter
